Drawing

Drawing has always played a very important role in my life, from infant days with wax crayons to the present day scrubbing away with chunky graphite sticks. My mother’s father and her three siblings were professional artists and these creative interests have a wonderful way of filtering down the generations.

At Richmond Adult college I was taught to look, record and eventually to see. Studying structure, mass and line I was attracted to natural form. Working in education years later I enjoyed the challenge of encouraging children to understand that everyone can draw. Continuous line drawing allows the spirt to wander and is available and free for everyone, sticks in the sand being an excellent example.

My three dimensional work is rarely prepared on paper as this would reduce elements of risk and uncertainty, but I will draw from the objects, in detail, at a later date. These will become abstract resolved and on occasion very large.
