"It is rare to find such integrity in current art, a work that grows out of the earth itself, to create an image for life itself. The pigments are made from local field soil, the image etched from a clod dug from the same field, epitomising the cycle we ourselves go through over a lifetime - from fleshly clay back to clay- yet with the promise in the roots and seeds of a further revival. The technique is as spare as the symbolism, a scraping back through layers to reveal an image as tangible as the original, hanging in space as a potent reminder of our essential nature. 'Adam' meant clay, and 'Eve' or 'Howa' meant sky. We too are still a marriage of Earth and Sky, spirit and clay. And the shaping spirit is still the mystery. Fiona's work captures this in her images and forms. Spirit is integral."

The Parlour
THE PARLOUR...

The Parlour, organised by Marian Bruce, is a small, simple white space providing a venue in which to view contemporary art.

Situated in the heart of the conservation area of Frome, it is surrounded by vintage and specialist shops and small cafes. Openings often coincide with the Artisan Market on Catherine Hill on the first Sunday of each month from April to October.

As The Parlour does not operate as a commercial gallery, the individual artist may install the work and dictate the schedule of showings and events to suit their artistic practise.

Blue House at Frome Festival 2008
Sculpture in the Garden - Blue House, Bridge Street, Frome

To celebrate the Frome Festival in 2008 The Blue House exhibited contemporary, site-specific sculpture and installation in the garden and secluded woodland area. Twenty artists from various practices responded to the challenge.

"Here in The Blue House woodland I have chosen to work with essentially natural, transitory elements, both found and rescued. Some of the pieces are studies for a project planned for 2010."
